Samen met Sri, bezocht ik dit weekend estland met har prachtige middeleeuwse hoofdstad Tallinn. Deze oude stad is ongeveer 800 jaar geleden gesticht en herhaaldelijk veroverd en uitgebreid door de Zweden n Denen. De stad is nog altijd deels omgeven door een stadsmuur en op de citadel staat tegenwoordig het prlementsgebouw en orthodoxe kerk. De eerste dag bezochten we deze fraaie stad. De tweede dag hebben we een excursie gemakt naar de Jagala watervallen, die de grootte van Estland zijn. We bezochten verder een aantal landhuizen die bezit waren van logale leenheren. Verder bezochten we het fraaie Lehamaa park met zijn moerassen en meren. Het cultuurlandschap leek typisch Russisch met zijn houten huizen en bossen. Na een fraaie tocht langs de kust en een paar dorpen reden we weer terug naar Tallinn. De laatste dag brachten we een bezoek aan de bastion tunnels waar de oude en recente (oorlogs) geschiedeis mooi zichtbaar was gemaakt.

With my Friend, Sri from India, we decided to spend a weekend in Estonia with its nice medieval capital Tallinn. It is an old city, founded some 800 years ago and expanded by both the Swedish and Danish invadors. The city is still partly walled and has a citadel on top of a hill, where the parlemaint and othodox church is located nowerdays. The first day, we explored the city. The scond day, we participated in an excurison to Jagala falls, tha largest waterfall in Estonia. After this, we visited some Manor houses. We visited the beautiful Lehamaa park with its swamps and lakes. We ended this our tour visiting the beatiful North coast and some villages. The cultural landscape was distinctive Russian, with woods and wooden houses. The last day, we visited the bastion tunnels in Tallinn that proved very worthwile and gave uis a glimpse of rancient and recent (WW2) history in Tallinn.
