If you'd like to go to Tunesia after seeing these pictures, remember that you enter another culture with other habits and values. Things we find normal could be interpreted as insult in Tunesia. Here are some tips to make your holiday a pleasent one.
Tunesia has a well developed touristic infrastructure. The roads in Tunesia are good and most people (in the tourist area's) speak at least French, english or german but sometimes also a bit of Dutch, Russian and a couple of other languages.
Preperation at home
Medical
Like arabic countries in Tunesia some diseases exists which are banned in the west. So before you go, contact your medical authority on vaccinations you might need. Consider the following vaccins:
Difterie - Tetenus - Polio (DTP).
Hepatitus A.
Although food preperation is quite hygienec in (the tourist parts of) Tunesia, some paople may suffer from diarree. Take a medkit with you with medicine against diaree and ORS (a sald - sweet water solution).
Clothing
In Tunesia it is not appropiate to walk with uncovered shoulders everywhere and one always has to obey the wishes of the mosque keeper or imam: Take off your shoes before entering a mosque. In all mosques women should cover their hair. I n some mosques women can borrow a wrap or shawl to cover hair and arms. Not all mosques grant tourist visits.
Currency
1 Dinar is about 45 eurocents (50 dollarcents, 2015). Most places will have enough ATM's available where you can obtain Dinars, In many tourist area's it is also possible to pay with Euro and even US dollars. However take notice that the calculated currency rate in shops is not always very good when paying in foreign currency.
In Tunesia
Food and drinks
Normal tap water in Tunesia is not drinkable for western people. However almost everywhere bottles of mineral water are sold for 0.5 to 1 euro per liter. Please check if the bottle is sealed.
If you want to buy foot in the street please take care that it is fresh! Convince yourself that tea has been boiled properly. Go to a place where it is crowded, The food will be better.

You will enter another culture with other habits so please take care of the following
Be conservative in your clothing, women showing knees or elbows is not always appreciated. This depends highly on the location where you are. (in tourist areas, clothing is less conservative.
Bargaining is normal in Tunesia, one expects you to bargain so you need to do so if you want to pay a reasonable price.
Be patient, some procedures may take time.
A tip to a cab driver or waiter or carrier is quite normal, about 1 - 2 Dinar.
