Dit was een trip van bijna een week om de eilandstaat Malta te ontdekken. Na aankomst ben ik meteen op onderzoek uitgegaan in de omgeving van de accomodatie waar ik verbleef.

De volgende dag ben ik eerst naar Gozo gegaan. Hier heb ik eerst Xerri's grot bezicht, die letterlijk onder het huis van een famillie ligt en ook door hen geexploiteerd wordt. Hier vlakbij ligt de fraaie Ggantija tempel, die ouder blijkt te zijn dan Stonehenge of de pyramides van Egypte. Na een bezoek aan het heiligdom Ta'Pinu, bezocht ik de fraaie Dwejra's baai met zijn prachtige kustlijn.

De volgende dag bezocht ik in de morgen Mdina, een zeer mooie vestingstad met architectuur van de gotiek tot aan de barok en een zeer fraaie kathedraal. Hierna nam ik de bus naar Valleta, een fraaie stad, strategisch gelegen rond drie baaien. Kenmerkend voor de Maltenser architectuur zijn de versierde balkons met houten opbouwin verschillende kleuren.

De volgende dag was een dag op het "Bounty eiland" Comino met zijn azuurblouwe wateren (o.a. de Blue lagoon) en volop wandelmogelijkheden. Een echter relax dag!

De laatste dag maakte ik een tour naar de Blue grotto die alleen per boot te bereiken is. Ook bezochten we het dorp Marsaxlokk met zijn wekelijkse markt en het stadje Qrendi met zijn fraaie oude gebouwen. 

De volgende dag zat de reis er al weer op, Malta laat een behoorlijke indruk achter en de tijd was veel te kort om alles te zien.

A trip of one week to Malta. A beautiful island full of history and beautiful nature. After arriving, I explored the inmediate viscinity of the place I stayed.

The next day, I visited Gozo and first paid a visit to the Xerii's grotto, A cave, located litteraly under a family's house, who now run the place. Close by is another importand historic place, the Ggantija temple that predates both the Egyptians and Stonehenge. After a visit to the Ta'Pinu Sanctuary, I paid a visit to the Dwejra's bay with its spectacular coastline.

The next day, I visited the beautifull fortified city of Mdina with it's beautiful gothic-to baroque buildings and it's splendid cathedral. In the afternoon, I took the public bus to Valleta to explore the city. Valleta is beautiful and spreads strategically over three bays. Most noticable feature of Maltese architecture are the balcony's with their wooden patio's with different colours.

After all exploring, the next day, I took a trip to Comino, which is a real "tropical paradise" with azure blue waters (the Blue lagoon) and lot of hiking opportunities. It was a day of relaxation.

The last day, I spent on a tour to the famous Blue grotto, which can only be admired from a boat. We also visited the town of Marsaxlokk, with it's weekly market. We ended our tour with a visit to the town of Qrendi, a beautiful and sleepy old town.

The next day, is was time to leave Malta behind me taken with me a lot of impressions of these beautiful islands.
